My process always begins with the body first. I create spontaneous markings with my eyes closed. Then the paintings unfold into multiple eyes, aligned celestial bodies, and contorted animals all inhabiting a vivid landscape carved by rivers and waterfalls.
Consciousness is omnipresent, nature is highly perceptive. Existence is multifaceted, fluid, and ever-changing. Emotion is communal wisdom. Grief and celebration must be moved through the body and through the world around us.
krisha redillas
Krisha's work is characterized by her use of saturated pigment, dynamic brushstrokes, and landscape symbolism. Guided by her spiritual explorations in indigenous Filipino animism and classical Tantric yoga, her paintings are acts of playful rebellion, mirroring her queer, diasporic experience and connection to nature.
After earning a multidisciplinary degree in psychology and design studies from West Virginia University, she built a career in art direction within the holistic wellness industry, which ultimately led her back to her passion for traditional art. She is self-taught.
Primarily an oil painter, she also experiments with acrylic, tattooing, and embodied movement as a yoga teacher. She enjoys solo travel, talking to herself, and spending time with friends and animals.
My paintings’ visual motifs are mantras for me: to see, feel, and remember our truth. To resist the colonial separation of land, body, spirit, and self. The land is alive and we can choose to see, as awareness itself is an act of care.
